Company History

Jim Samuels, owner of J.G. Samuels, Inc., moved from Ohio to Wisconsin in 1967 to work as an expeditor for a local home builder. He graduated with his Masters degree from the Ohio State University several years earlier and had been teaching and coaching in the Columbus, Ohio suburbs for 4 years.

The opportunity to get into the constructions business was too much to resist, so the move to Wisconsin resulted. He started his own business in 1968, and that was the beginning of J.G. Samuels, Inc. As the company has evolved over the years, Jim decided to keep it small and work with customers more closely in designing and building a few custom homes each year.

Home size has never been an issue. The company has an inventory of over 500 plans and has constructed homes from 1200 square feet to well over 8,000 square feet. No matter the size of the home, the process is the same: J.G. Samuels will look at existing inventory of plans to see if anything is close to what the customer wants, or start with a blank paper and create the design. Often, the result is a combination of these things.

As the design progresses, J.G. Samuels' will get into the specifications for the home. The specifications are what really determine the final cost of the home. This is where the expertise and advice of the designer will really assist the home owner in trying to meet their budget.

It is important that the customer has the building site before the design process begins. Lot characteristics are often a major factor that must be considered during the design of the home: direction (North, South, East, West), slopes, trees, offsets, set backs, etc. If a customer does not have their lot, Jim or Tim Samuels can also assist them in finding and purchasing a lot that will work for them. Jim and Tim are licensed realtors and both are affiliated with Century 21 Reich and Roberts Associates, Inc. in Waukesha. (Click on on Reich and Roberts to see our listings). If we do not have a specific lot or home listed we have access to the local multiple listing service to search the entire area.

Once the home is designed, priced out according to the plans an specifications, and a contract is signed, Tim Samuels takes over the expediting and supervision of the construction.

Commercial Projects

JG Samuels, Inc. over the years has expanded into small commercial construction projects. These include many types of buildings, including car dealerships, warehouses, and factories. These projects basically follow the same process as our residential - design - specifications - pricing - contract - construction.
